Each cast picks one fish at random, weighted by its availability (changed by fishing buffs). Seasons and weather don't matter.
All fish(23)
Every fish bites in all four seasons and in any weather. What changes is the water and the time of day. Tick a fish once you have caught it; your progress stays in this browser.

Availability is the fish's weight out of 10 (1 = rarest). Its real chance depends on which other fish share the water and hour: see the finder above or the table by water below.
Bite times
Fish use only three windows: before 18:00, after 18:00, or all day. The clock stops at 22:00 and you wake at 06:00, so evening fish can only be caught between 18:00 and 22:00.
- Bite window in the game data
- Hours you can actually fish
- Night (clock frozen) and sleep
Chances by water
Exact chance of each fish per cast at every kind of water, without buffs. Empty cells mean the fish never bites there at that time.

Fishing buffs
Only two things count as fishing buffs: Fisherman's Brew and Fisherman's Pie. Each gives a strength T = quality + 1 (Fisherman's Pie counts as quality 1). They make rare fish more likely, common fish less likely, and fishing cheaper.
| Buff | T | Mana per catch | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 16 | 60 s | |
| 2 | 12.8 | 80 s | |
| 3 | 9.6 | 100 s | |
| 4 | 6.4 | 120 s | |
| 5 | 3.2 | 140 s | |
| 2 | 12.8 | 80 s |
| Availability | T=0 | T=1 | T=2 | T=3 | T=4 | T=5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 9 |
| 2 | 2 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 8 |
| 3 | 3 | 5 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 7 |
| 4 | 4 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 6 | 6 |
| 6 | 6 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 4 |
| 8 | 8 | 5 | 5 | 3 | 2 | 2 |
Example, Ocean (Day 06:00–18:00): Merman's Folly goes from 2.6% to 17.6% with Fisherman's Brew (Legendary Quality, T=5), while Brinebelly drops from 20.5% to 3.9%.
Fishing normally costs 16 mana per catch. Each point of quality takes 20% off; stacked buffs add up, down to 0. Foods with a second, non-status Fishing effect (like bread) don't change fishing.
How fishing works
CastEquip the Fishing Rod and click a fishing spot close to you. You need a little more mana than one catch costs.
Play the fish's songWhen the "!" appears, a rhythm game starts. Every fish has its own chart; you play it with one button (left mouse).
Score above 85%Perfect hits give 10 points, okay 8, sloppy 6; a missed note or a stray press costs 2. Beat 85% of the maximum to land the fish.
Pay only when you catchThe 16 mana is spent only on a successful catch. A failed or cancelled song costs nothing. Fish have no quality or size.
Abilities that help
Song of the SeaA perfect 100% song (all Perfect, no stray presses) lands 2 or 3 fish instead of 1.
Treasure Finder5% chance per catch to reel in a bag of 20–50 gold instead of the fish.
FishmongerFish sell for 20% more, in shops and in your magic well.
Fish Trap Refrain
Fish Trap Refrain drops a fish trap into nearby water (80 mana, 64 when perfected). Come back the next day for one creature, picked evenly from this list: Song details →
Other things you can fish up that aren't in the bite tables:
Blue Trout,
Emerald Crab,
Stony Spine
Book of Fishes
Florian is writing a field guide. Put fish in his chest: he counts different species, not how many you bring. A Study in Fish
- 55 species
- 1010 species
- 1414 species
- 1515 species: the guide is finished
When it is done, a letter arrives the next day and the book is published:
Book of Fishes
Good to know
- Some fish list Pond as a water, but no fishing spot in the world uses the pond type, so you meet them in rivers and lakes instead.
- One fishing area named "River" is set to Ocean in the game data, so it gives ocean fish.
- All fish are available in every season, including Year 2 and later.
- Your score only decides catch or miss. There is no fish size or quality.
